Mercedes Benz Thieves Lead Turnpike Pursuit Through Bergen County, Ditch Stolen Car In Newark

Two suspects remain at large after leading cops on a vehicle pursuit through Northern New Jersey on the late afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 8, authorities said.

At 5:49 p.m., state troopers observed a blue Mercedes Benz reported stolen out of Montclair traveling north on the New Jersey Turnpike near Ridgefield, state police said. Troopers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop but the driver refused and continued onto Route 46 West, state police said.

After a brief pursuit, troopers lost visual sight of the Mercedes Benz, and the pursuit was terminated, police said. The Mercedes Benz was later located by the Newark Police Department at Chapel St. and Ferry St. abandoned, and the two suspects fled on foot, police said

After a search of the area, the two suspects remain at large, police said. This incident remains under investigation, police said.
